BC Health Authorities sign on with IBM and ISM Canada to deliver Desktop Management Services

Strategic outsourcing partnership is expected to bring about 250 new employees to ISM Canada’s BC Operation on April 2, 2011

Victoria, BC,  January 17, 2011

British Columbia’s Health Shared Services (HSSBC) has contracted with IBM to implement a variety of services across the Health Authorities in BC for desktop and workplace technologies, in a deal that will include 24/7 helpdesk service, enhanced deskside support, a cost-effective workstation technology refresh program and health care relevant service model transformation.

The contract expands upon the agreement between the Government of BC and IBM signed in December 2004, through which IBM subsidiary ISM Canada has been delivering helpdesk and deskside support services to 35,000 government employees. By leveraging the existing government contract, the Health Authorities are establishing a robust shared service far more quickly than would have been otherwise possible.

“This opportunity expands ISM Canada’s service to the public sector in British Columbia, and further extends our delivery of IT services to healthcare sector,” said Dan McMurtry, President and Chief Executive Office, ISM Canada. “We look forward to working with HSSBC and IBM to help BC’s Health Authorities realize the benefits of this agreement.”

The contract allows for about 250 IT professionals employed by the health authorities to receive offers of employment for comparable roles with ISM Canada - one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2011 as selected by Mediacorp.  An agreement has been reached between ISM Canada and the British Columbia Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU) covering the terms of employment for affected Health Authority employees who accept positions with ISM Canada.

In extending the agreement already in place between IBM and the Province, the Government of BC expects to benefit from economies of scale and total savings approaching $100 milliion over the term of the agreement.
