Cloud Migration – Partner Attributes
An accelerated approach to cloud migration activities was implemented by many organizations over the past three years. The companies that were prepared and ready to invest in the right partners and technologies are realizing many benefits. Those who weren’t as prepared and relied on short term solutions are now in the mid maturity phases of their migration and may be experiencing issues. Forrester conducted a study with CIOs (commissioned by Google) in February of 2022 to assess “How to Get Things Right Throughout the Cloud Migration Journey”. In this study they explore the challenges faced and the solutions CIOs have implemented.
Forrester’s research states the top 3 challenges in 2021 that CIOs faced with their most recent/planned migrations to the cloud were:
- 41% Optimizing apps in the cloud post migration
- 38% Performance issues with workloads migrated to the cloud
- 37% Costs associated with migration
Due to these challenges, decision makers have realized they need to re-examine their approach to mid-to-late cloud migration activities to support long term success. One of the key factors they attributed to post migration success was working more closely with cloud services providers as a strategic migration partner. According to Forrester, “82% of CIOs agree the cloud migration provider they selected was a key partner in their migration success.”
What are the attributes CIOs considered when choosing a cloud migration partner?

Ease of use, technical expertise, and security and compliance top the list of important partner attributes. Companies are prepared to pay a premium for a partner who can provide a solution with minimal challenges, provide guidance for future enhancements, and meet security and regulatory requirements.
